Objectives of the Course:The course objective is obtaining theoretical and practical insight about DC machines and transformers To be able to deal with basics of transformers; to be able to differentiate between DC machines and AC machines; To be able to deal completely with both DC motors and DC generators; to know how to control the speed of DC motors and the voltage of the DC generators
Course Description:Electromagnetic circuits; properties of ferromagnetic materials. Single-phase and three-phase transformers. Per Unit System. Principles of electromechanical energy conversion: Linear and nonlinear systems; singly and multiply excited, translational and rotational systems. DC machines: Theory, generators, motors, speed control.
Learning Outcomes:1. be able to drive DC motor in different modes
2. be able to control speed of DC motor
3. be able to control generated voltage of Dc generator
4. be able to operate Power transformers
5. be able to reconnect 3-phase transformer to achieve certain requirements
6. be able to regulate output voltgae of transformers
7. be able to make power calculation including transformers

2Magnetic Circuits: Ampere’s law and magnetic circuits, B-H curve, Magnetization curve
3Magnetic Circuits: Magnetic circuit with air gap, inductances, magnetic materials
4Transformers: single phase transformers, ideal transformers, practical transformers
5Transformers equivalent circuit, Open and short circuit tests, voltage regulation, efficiency, auto transformers
6Three phase transformers

9Fundamental of electromagnetic energy conversion
10Fundamentals of DC machines: Construction, Commutation, Armature reaction
11DC generators: Separately excited, Shunt, Compound, and series generators
12DC motor: Separately excited, Shunt, Compound, and series generators
13Dc motors: Starting and braking
14DC motor speed control.
